“Outbound shipping was the initial focus” 9 questions to Leif Griper

"Outbound shipping was the initial focus"
9 questions to Leif Griper, the visionary behind Parcelcube

In a candid discussion with Leif Griper, the visionary behind Parcelcube, we gained insight into the inception, development, and future trajectory of Parcelcube products. With a focus on innovation and customer-centric solutions, Leif sheds light on the journey of Parcelcube and its impact on the delivery processes.

1. What was the initial inspiration or need that led to the development of Parcelcube products?

Leif: “In my then-current role, I observed a significant volume of parcels being sent daily, with measurements such as dimensions and weight being done manually and then transferred to the shipping system or WMS. This was quite a workload, and accuracy was quite bad.”

2. How did you come up with the concept and features?

Leif: “Trying to procure a device to alleviate the issues we were facing with a lot of manual work that consumed time and resources, as well as the challenges posed by incorrect data, I sought a solution. The consensus was that current devices were expensive, slow, and difficult to set up and operate. I believed I could do better.”

3. Were there any unique selling points you wanted to emphasize?

Leif: “Our focus was on fast ROI, ease of use, and cost efficiency.”

4. Did customer feedback play a role in shaping the development of the products?

Leif: “Not so much for the hardware other than size; this is why we have the XL model today, which is larger. Most of the input initially indicated that the user interface for the software needed a more modern touch than existing products had.”

5. How did you approach testing and refining the products before bringing them to market?

Leif: “Most testing could be done in-house since we had lots of parcels needing measuring before shipping. Late-stage testing was also expanded to include key partners and resellers.”

6. Were there any specific industries or sectors that you initially targeted with Parcelcube products, and has that focus evolved over time?

Leif: “Initial focus was on outbound shipping; over the years, inbound has become the biggest part. The second biggest focus is to secure master data that includes all dimensions and weights for your stock.”

7. How do you see Parcelcube products evolving in the future?

Leif: “As the retail market and the 3PL market grow, more flexible devices will be needed, such as the Parcelcube Vision and the upcoming Parcelcube 1000.”

8. How have Parcelcube products changed the clients’ life?

Leif: “Our products have greatly improved parcel measurement for many clients, making operations smoother and accuracy much better. It’s had a big impact across different industries.”

9. What role does sustainability play in the design and manufacturing of Parcelcube products?

Leif: “Sustainability is important. The entire unit is designed with an aluminum frame to keep shipping weight down, and since aluminum is recyclable forever. Additionally, all the electronics are RoHS-compliant.”
